evaluating eye disease
Glaucoma and Retinal Diseases are the leading causes of blindness today. The number of cases of eye disease are increasing each year and affecting millions of people. One of our goals during your examination is to answer the question, "Are you a risk for vision loss?"
To help us determine if you are at risk for eye disease, we now use the Heidelberg HRT3 Optic Nerve and Retina Scanner to detect early signs of many eye diseases like glaucoma and macular changes. As technology has improved and become more sophisticated, we have more precise equipment now aiding us in the early diagnosis of eye disease.
This new specialized diagnostic test aids in the early detection of eye disease. Patients with a family history of glaucoma, diabetes, long-term steroid treatment, macular degeneration, and other retinal diseases may be good candidates for this test. The test consists of a series of high resolution pictures that are taken with a special confocal scanning laser system that detects damage and measure changes for the "earliest development" of ocular disease. |
"A leading Glaucoma study in eyecare has determined that the HRT3 diagnostic test can detect structural damage in the eye up to 8 years earlier than most other diagnostic tests in eyecare".
Getting an early start may reduce your risk of vision loss. Eye disease is easier to manage in the early stages than in the late stages.
Early detection of eye disease can assist in preserving your vision and quality of life.
If after your examination Dr. Eisenberg determines that you may be a risk for vision loss, he may recommend you have the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph. The cost of this test is usually covered by most major health insurance plans.
